I want to get into some older bands (anywhere from 10-50 years ago). So, what’s your favorite ‘old’ song? I’m into Asleep by The Smiths right now, but you’ve probably heard that one.

okay, so youtube embedding doesn’t work here. pity! i tried to post a cover of a 1954 song by the chordettes, ‘mr. sandman’, made by pomplamoose just around last year. i think it’s wonderful.

i also like ‘dream a little dream of me’ by the mamas and the papas, but probably everybody knows it, right?

whenever i am having friends over, i turn on django reinhardt, a compilation called ‘djangologie’ with 100 tracks. he is amazing, and his music somehow always keeps the conversation going as the perfect background. my favorite track of his is called ‘brazil’.

oh! another one of my favorites is ‘god’s gonna cut you down’, also known as ‘run for a long time’, by johnny cash (i can’t stand johnny cash otherwise, but his version of this song is so full of suspense that i love it)

also, i love ‘double life feelings’ by john mayall, the grandfather of white blues.

just realized that you were probably asking about music that came after the sixties, and i suggested stuff that is dustier than that! i listened to ‘asleep’, and if that’s the kind of music you like, try these:

‘at last, forever’ by jethro tull

‘gentleman’s excuse me’ by fish

‘lullaby’ by the cure

‘your day will come’ by cousteau

‘call me call me’ by yoko kanno

All the songs by October Project (Particularly Lonely Voice and Wall of Silence)
