I setup a few different things for us to hang out and chat in the middle of the night. I don’t know about you, but from midnight to about 5-7am, I’m hanging out alone in my bedroom. Usually playing PC games or watching Youtube. There are times though, where I can get so bored from not having anyone to ”hang out” with and talk to. Every once and in a great while, I also feel lonely. So I setup a discord for us to use voice chat for gaming, hanging out, just talking about our hobbies, etc.

Or on a more serious note, for us to vent, open up safely, be vulnerable, build trust and loyalty. A place to be accepted no matter how much of a ”monster” you might think you are. We’re all ”defective” in one way or another, trust me. So Discord is like Teamspeak/etc, but it has chat rooms to talk and voice channels, so you can even have separate conversations… going from one room to the next.

Band is like Facebook I guess, in a lot of ways. Instead of pages focusing on you and other people, ”bands” are focused on whatever their theme is. After a quick sign up, you can join as many bands as you want and they will all be organized neatly for you.

Same with Discord, you can join as many servers as you wish, they will all appear to the left side in a neat column. Both sides allow you to instantly hop between bands/servers. Rabbit on the other hand, has a chat room, let’s you start a voice chat, and like Skype even lets you video call. You can have a ”conference” or ””hangout” with up to 15 people.

But unlike Skype/etc, with Rabbit you can share a screen, that means internet sites, youtube and even Hulu and Netlflix. Band will be used daily for updating, sharing things and having long term, ongoing discussions about things, almost like forums. But also has a chatroom.

Discord will be the ”up to the minute” live way to talk with each other. Band and Discord both have apps for your phone so you can check it wherever you, take pictures and share them, etc. Rabbit is something I only plan to use once a week probably, for movie nights.

Each person will nominate a movie, then we all vote (not allowed to vote on our own movie), and then we watch the winner. Or other methods, whatever people want to do. This would be up to 15 people hanging out while I stream the movie from my Netflix account to you guys live. So it’s like Twitch.tv, but we’d all be watching a movie instead of someone playing a game. Also considering once a month, or special occasion movie marathons. This would allow people from all over the world to at least catch one or two of the movies, depending on their timezone difference, school, work, etc.

Anyway, sorry for rambling, but it’s just ”me”…that’s who I am and what I do. If you’re still reading at this point, thank you so much. Just remember, Band and Discord will seem pretty dead for a while until we get another people in there to sustain a 24/7 presence (timezone overlapping, etc) so that a person can go in there at anytime of day and have someone to talk to.

    • Thanks for setting up these servers @nightwake, it’s much appreciated by the Blah community Trevor :) (hugs)

    • Sounds great! Thank you for sharing something so awesome :)

    • Yeah this is my fourth server that I’ve setup and managed, so just know that it will be slow growing at first…but it grows exponentially. So maybe a couple people for the first week or two…then at some point in a month or so we might end up having to switch from fully public to private invitation only. This server is actually growing the quickest compared to the others, so I’m encouraged.
