There is a tradition in my extended family that has truly impacted my life. My “Mommo” (my not-blood related Grandma) has lived in the same house for over 40 years. Whenever Mommo finds an inspirational quote, bible verse, or helpful saying, she cuts it out and decoupages it to the inside of the bathroom door. So when you would use the bathroom at Mommo’s house, you ended up just standing there and reading everything on the door. She has been doing this for so many years, that the bathroom door, now looks like a work of art containing words of wisdom and comfort. Well, when each cousin went off to college, Mommo would sit in front of the bathroom door and wrote down her favorite things from the door onto index cards. She would then put them all in a special box for us to take to school with us. I still have mine. And throughout college I would go through them and read the index cards when I was going through a hard time. It made me think about life and know that I am loved.

A few years ago I went through a terrible breakup, that resulted in my moving to a new place where I didn’t know many people. It was a very difficult time in my life, and one particularly bad day, I decided to start my own “bathroom door.” I use the back of my front door though, since it is the last thing I see before I enter into the world every day. I used Mommo’s index cards to start but have added many of my own inspirational finds, along with picutres, notes from friends, etc. I wish I could attach a picture of it on here lol. Maybe someday I can. Just thought I’d share something that has helped me in times of sadness and trouble. Hope it can help someone else.

That is beautiful I want to try it now too, I recently had a falling out with an old bestfriend of mine and she started talking all this crap about me, I just hurt but made me re evaluate my life and I think a project like this will really help. Thank you for sharing!

This is lovely. Such a beautiful tradition and I love that you moved it to the front door to be the last thing you see before starting a day. Thank you for this. Once my girlfriend and I get our own place, I’ll have to steal this from you. Much appreciated!

Awwh, that’s a super lovely idea! How come you can’t share a pic of it here? :( Would love to see it :) Definitely a great idea – super kudos to your Mommo, she sounds like a great woman!

I didn’t decoupage mine since I live in a rented apartment. I just used painters tape.

This is a truly beautiful idea! I might try this but put it on/around my desk rather than a door cause they’re always being replaced in these houses due to being cheaply built.

You have inspired me to start my own project. I’ll start mine on my living room walls though. I’d like to just be surrounded by inspirational and helpful quotes while sitting on my computer working on things. Thank you for this!
