to clarify I mean mostly in terms of imagery and symbolism. I know Churchill described it as a black dog and others have used the word incubus or void. but how do you describe it? I am asking this mostly out of personal curiosity. I know A lot of people describe it differently and as somebody who has dealt with it before I kind of want to know how others experience it. I have said before it feels like a hole were my hear used to be and sometimes I use the phrase darkness behind the eyes to describe how it can shift my outlook.

My husband describes his depression as the thing that goes thump in the night. You keep looking over your shoulder hoping not to see someone and yet the shadows seem to move. You know that a good life is before you but the wall you try to climb to get over there is to big and with every attempt the wall grows. You never get to the other side. You just become more lost.
