Unreal, weird feeling!?!?!

1

Ok I’m so terrified right now, I’ve had this really weird un-explainable feeling going on for almost a week now, It just suddenly started when I was walking home from school, and I started thinking
“Am I really seeing this? This is so weird…The leaves, just everything WTF”
And since then I’ve had this scary unreal feeling I’m so worried :’( It’s really annoying..
I feel like I’m in a dream, I just feel so weird and unreal! When I look around it feels weird! What is this?

Some more information:

- I’ve been starting to take some vitamins for my anxiety and they help, but I don’t know if that’s the case, neither my mom or the school nurse think so..

- I’ve recently started getting natural remedies for my anxiety as well, my mom massages me every night before bed, and I try to stay away from technology 1 hour before bed, and I’m pretty much adding a lot of changes to my night routine.. And the nurse told me that this feeling could be a sign of recovery since I’m already feeling better but I’m still worried…

- But I was also wondering if it could be because of the season changes and all that? I’ve never had this before though during specific seasons though…

- Or could this be because I’m developing? (I’m 13) Or some blood issues??

I’ve had this feeling before, but not for many days! Help me, I’m so scared and frustrated…Sometimes even my dreams feel more realistic! I’ve tried talking to my mom but she comes up with the same excuse:
“You don’t sleep well enough”
EVEN THOUGH I DO NOW!
What is this? I’m so scared :’( She won’t let me off those vitamins..Ugh please somebody tell me what this is and how to get rid of it…

Yepp. I agree with Johnathan. I used to get that so, so much with my anxiety. It could last for hours or days and nothing helps to bring you out of it. Nothing feels real, it feels like it's not you speaking and when you touch your face or body it feels like there's a barrier stopping you from feeling it directly. The only way I stopped feeling "derealised" is by medication. But that's not for everyone. Have you tried therapy? Because my psych has helped A LOT with dealing with the weird feeling and getting through when it happens.

I got like this when I couldn't sleep properly. Try some meditating and more sleep?

My opinion of what you're experiencing is called dissociation. I have had similar experiences to what you describe. Dissociation can happen after a traumatic event or during periods of high stress. It is the mind's reaction to stress and serves as a protection by somewhat removing you from situation. I challenge you to read about dissociation and see if it is in line with how you are feeling. If you feel that this might be an issue, speak with a professional. :) Good luck!

Hello, miss Nadiya.

Firstly, calm down. Your condition is not as serious as it seems at first glance. What you are experiencing is called "derealization", and you can read up on it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derealization

If it troubles you that deeply, inform your parents and show them the research you've done on your condition and ask them to look into getting you into some counseling. If you prefer, you can also talk to another Listener here on BlahTherapy; likewise, my inbox is always open.
