Should I pursue this friendship?

I’m seventeen years old and have always had problems with relationships and self-esteem. Recently, I met a guy six years older than me through work and after texting all night, we decided that we would try a date. That one date was pretty amazing, and I had two other dates with him equally as good. However, he ran into his ex shortly after and they rekindled their relationship. He says he wants to be friends with me and that he’ll always be there for me, but I’m afraid that he’s just saying that to make me feel better. I want to be friends with him pretty badly, but I’m afraid that it’s just because I have a crush on him. Recently, he hasn’t really been texting back, and I think he’s gotten a bit tired of me, as most people do. Should I keep trying to be friends with him?

If you feel like he may be ignoring you, confront him about it. It's best not to do it over text, since he may be busy. Ask him if he's available to talk to you about some things in person. If he doesn't respond, assume he is busy and ask again in a couple days If he still does not respond, then don't bother with it anymore. Friendships are give and take, and if he doesn't have the time to talk to you, then he isn't worth your time.

I wouldn't think so. If his attention can be that easily swayed from you then it's really not worth the stress it will put on you. I agree with Luis.

He may not be texting back because he's busy. Try talking to him in person; that way you can see his reactions and make a decision from there.

If he's able to switch feelings that fast from you to his ex-girlfriend, it makes it seem that you were his rebound girl, not trying to sound mean or anything, but that's how it looks like. If you believe that you can stay friends with gradually having the crush go away, go for it to being friends, but if you continue to stay friends and the crush is still there, I suggest not to be friends. If he gets back with his ex and you still have a crush on him, it'll make this a whole lot harder for you.
