PEACE

I founded and used to run a group called Pagans Encouraging Active Community Efforts (acronym PEACE) in St Louis and it gave me a lot of comfort to have events, holidays, nights out etc. with people that understand my religious views.

Now that I’ve moved to Wisconsin, though, I tried to start it up again but pagans are fewer and farther between and it’s been a real struggle. I have members on the website, but can’t seem to get events going – I think the most we’ve had meet up is a group of 6 as opposed to 20+ and it’s been a depressing situation because I feel a little lonely without pagan friends to talk to.

Should I continue to try to reach out and put more time and effort into this group, or is it time to let it go and try to just get comfortable with the solitude?

There are some places where paganism and other non traditional religions are shunned or misunderstood. I don't think you should give up. Pagans in extremely religious areas are often afraid to come out do to their own fears of persecution. What group you do have is defiantly better than nothing and if you are comfortable with your religion and have enough conviction to continue to meet do to the lack of turn out, it may convince others to follow. A person just being introduced to something of that magnitude might feel a little discouraged if they started going to the meets and less and less people show up because they feel that their coven or group isn't big enough. If it truly means something to you then you should put as much effort as you can into it. :)

it sounds like you are very passionate about your beliefs and your cause. keep doing your thing unless you are in danger, if you are in danger (socially or physically), then you may re-evaluate your cause and decide whether or not it is still worth fighting for. but until then, you have no reason to give up. A small community is better than none at all. and on top of that, you are just starting it up in your area. Births are rarely an easy task, there are bound to be obstacles. sometimes it may take numerous fails for just ONE success, but you must decide for yourself if it's worth your time. If you are passionate, I say it is definitely worth your time.

I think you should continue to work on this. If it's a passion, keep at it. It will keep you happy. Given time, I'm sure it will grow in size; it could even spread.
