I’ve been wanting to do a back handspring, and I’m scared to attempt because I feel somethings going to go wrong. I can do a back bend, but can’t flip over yet. Should I try anyway?
Not a gymnast, but at a juggling course we tried those, it involved a person supporting your back in the first tries, like this: http://youtu.be/Q2f8nCfF5ig?t=2m22s so it's opportune for you to find someone to help you, even better if they are gymnasts and know what they are doing.
I'm also not a gymnast but my physical therapist suggested that every time I want to work on a new stretch that I work on it in a pool. Gives some feeling of weightlessness to create muscle memory.
