How to tell someone you have depression without being blunt?

I’ve never really been good at asking for help, so I need some advice. I’m wanting to talk to a school counselor about everything, but just saying that I have depression straight up seems… wrong. Any help?

Mental illness is misunderstood too often. Be more worried about people underestimating your situation. Especially depression, Just because I am diagnosed with MDD I have learned it's incredibly difficult to help people understand what I'm going through because it's very confusing... How do you explain that you feel horrible for no reason? My ultimate feelings are. Don't be ashamed, if you had high bloodpressure or asthma you would get professional help and ask friends and family for help. It should be no different with mental disorders, especially when so much support is needed!

First off, it would be the best thing to tell your school counselor that you have depression. It is not something that you should be ashamed of, because there are many people who experience the same thing. If you can't come up with the confidence to tell your school counselor, you can tell him/her about your situation by describing your feelings as best as you can; however, your counselor may see these as signs of depression and figure it out anyway. I say again though, it would be the best option to tell your school counselor the situation straight out.

It is not wrong to say "I am experiencing depression." Do not let that stop you from asking for help. I know it is hard, but ignore that feeling and tell the counselor.

If you feel like you cant just come out and say the words perhaps say 'I have trouble dealing with things at the moment and I think I need someone to help me learn how to deal with things better. As currently I'm very unhappy'

Say you feel empty and like you can't see clarity in things.
