How good does Blahtherapy work for you?

Hi everyone! I’m a 17 year old student from Belgium and I would be very happy if I could take 10 minutes of your time :)

I think this site is absolutely amazing and I’m doing a research paper about it! I’ll be looking at the free options only. I’m examinating how good this site works as problem solving therapy, behaviour therapy and cognitive therapy.

Problem solving therapy focuses on, well yeah, solving problems, it focuses less on the cause and more on the solution. In this case, the venter is the expert in his problem, the listener tries to guide him and give advice, they try to solve the venters problem together.

Behaviour therapy is about looking at how to solve behavioural problems by changing the psychological / physical enviroment of the venter. Hypothetical: the venter has social anxiety, he comes to this site and thus changes his psychological enviroment, people in this site can encourage him to change his physical enviroment, and ultimatly, become social.

Cognitive therapy focuses, to state it banaly, on changing the venters thinking, helping him out of depression, his problem changes as a cause to this. For example: The people in this site can change the thinking patron of someone who cuts, resulting in the stopping of cutting.

The difference between behaviour therapy and cognitive therapy is that the former changes enviroment, the latter changes thinking process.

I’ve explained these types of therapy very shortly and banaly but it’s just to give you an idea! :)

I’m looking for testimonials, have you been helped on this site? What kind of therapy did you receive from this site do you think? How long did it take for you to get better? How effective do you think this site is? Did this site work better / worse / just as good as therapy with a psychologist? Any negative thoughts of this site are welcome too!

Feel free to add me and message me or leave a comment! Sorry if I made any grammatical mistakes, English isn’t my first language :)

This sounds like a great idea for a paper! For a testimonial this is what I have to say... Blahtherapy is a great place to go and vent or just help others out. I use this website mainly to help other people out because it's just what I like to do. Although, I have been a "venter" once before and it greatly benefitted me. Because it's anonymous, I feel like I can talk more about my problem than opposed to friends that would either judge me or spread my problems to the rest of the world. Blahtherapy has been a great help to me and I enjoy helping others out in my spare time. I think that this website is a great way to help/be helped and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is struggling with a problem and needs to get it off their chest.

I have only been a venter once and it was excellent. I had been doing what I thought were some terrible things, and talking to someone normalised it, made me realise that it wasn't as bad as I thought and I was very guilty for no reason. They also told me a bit about their own life (the listener did) and that helped. They used a bit of humour which was nice. I felt instantly better. I still needed to go and see a counsellor, but before I came on here, I would have been too worried to even bother to be motivated to get the counselling session.

I think what benefits people get from this site vary from person to person. For some people a therapist is too personally where as Blah is practically anonymous. But for others Blah isn't enough and they end up seeking out a therapist or professional help. Blah helps me get things off my mind, when i don't know how to handle a situation or just want reassurance. The people on this site make it what it is and they and great, kind, helpful, people.

For myself I find I am here mostly to be a help to others,as there are many people here that need help or perhaps havn't had lifes experiances to guide them.
On vent there are many young people who are in situations that they have no one to turn to and no doubt have no other meens of getting some advice.
Unfortunatly though, as people have very different opinions ,it isnt always easy to see from a younger person's point of view what is correct advice given.
So at times when ive answer questions i do wander how confused they must be.
When I am listening privatly on vent I find it better to help others,to be honest. Because the one on one is more helpful and is instant,so you can keep chatting and making people feel comfortable in their needs especialy if you have had experiance because you have worked in fields that can be of help.
At times though it would be much better for people to go and seek professional help, but where to find it free and in an instant is another matter though.
I hope this helps you :-)
