How do I take control of my type 1 Diabetes?

0

I’ve been diabetic for 7 years & I used to have an insulin pump but i got off of it a year ago; it just wasn’t working for me. I’m on shots now but I just can’t seem to test my blood sugar four times a day like I should, or take my shot before I eat.. & when I do, it’s too late. I’m such a fuck up and I don’t get it. I’m such a disappointment to my mom, & I hate it… Any help? Please?

you can set up reminders on your phone
you could ask your friends to text you at the time you need

try developing some other kind of routine, too. say, twice a day, open a notepad and write down everything you remember about the past several hours. do it every day, for a month. if it works fine, then most likely the problem is not that you can't handle a routine, but that you're having issues with the whole diabetes theme, and that would have to be dealt with.

good luck and don't panic!

I'm TypeOne and I just recently switched from a pump to pens and for me, it is an adjustment as well. I made sure to keep my supplies super organized and make sure I always have access to spares no matter what the situation (so in my car, my bedroom, in my purse). I use cute pencil cases to divide everything up so I dont feel so awkward having to tote a bunch of medical stuff with me. Its hard to remember, but keep in mind that controlling your blood sugar can help you stabilize you moods and will make you feel less like a disappointment. It sounds lame, but you can treat this like elementary school until it becomes a habit. Get a dry erase board and write all the things you SHOULD be doing in permanent marker on it and check them off as the day goes on. Like I said, it might be lame, but it holds you accountable. If you ever want to talk about Diabetes or anything else, you can message me on here. :)
