How do I deal with solitude?

0

My job requires long stretches of sitting behind a desk and being the only person in the building. Customers are few and far between. There’s relatively little work required of me, so I spend most of my time with music on or playing on my phone. The problem is that I’ve lately caught myself talking aloud to empty rooms and I’ve become irritable when I’m around other people later in the day. Turning the music off makes it worse. I’ve tried bringing books or games to work and they’ve helped very little, if at all.
How do I deal with so much time alone?

I'm an only child. I've had to entertain myself most of my life. I actually accidentally created 6 voices in my head so I could talk to someone when I'm alone. I would say being alone gets some time to getting used to. If I were you, I would invest some money into a portable gaming system to play while at work. Or, if you have a laptop, you can play PC games. Truth is humans are social by nature. So when you're not working, make arrangements with friends to go out. Even if it's just hanging out at someone's house and talking. These things should help you slide into the habit of being alone most of the day. I really hope this helps you.

I work from home and found myself in a similar situation. Books and games can only go so far. What worked for me was I started investing in the stock market. Researching companies and watching how the market was doing makes time fly by. I'm a bit of a risk taker anyway so this fit well to my personality. It's also something very few people really know that much about so it helps with conversations in a social setting. Good luck.

There is a variety of options for you. Try to play into your own hobbies and interests. Book and games are good, but are you creative? Try working on your novel or doing some sketching at work. Is your job one where you could move up? Using your time to find better ways to complete tasks or keep things organized/updated are great, especially if it would move you up and out of an empty building. Try working on marketing strategies that would engage you and increase customer visits. I'm not sure what kind of job you have but when I'm bored at work I try to amp up the social media game and get more people into my place of business! Hope this helps!

Books have always helped me. the trick si to pick one that is really engrossing. Dont go for those high minded classice like Dickens, pick something fun and action packed like Game of thrones or Dan Brown. I feel better about myself if i am learning/making things so i like to bring clay and sculpt. Is there anything you have wanted to learn but never had time? teach yourself how to sketch (art helps you access a part of your brain that doesnt focuss on time so its easy to pass long tracks of time without realizing it) or knit or wittle or speak spanish. Have a goal you cna try to reach and keep your hands busy if possible.
