How can I be there for my family?

0

My uncle died last night, he was my dad’s brother. I didn’t know him because he lived far away, but I’m still feeling very somber on behalf of my dad, aunt, and grandmother. I haven’t dealt with death in the family since I was in 2nd grade so I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do at a time like this. I want to be there for them but I live states away and don’t have the funds to travel for the funeral. Any advice would be great, thanks.

I think you can call them, your aunt or your cousins, and give them your condolences, you can ask how everybody is handling it, think a few nice things to say about your uncle and say that. There's no "right way" to do it, just aim at letting them know you are thinking about them and are close to them in their grief. It doesn't have to be long, you can follow up in contact in the coming weeks. Good luck.

First, i am so sorry for your loss. But advice wise: call them. not right away. let them have their time to grieve. i would say a couple days later call them. talk to them and tell them that you love them. (if religious, tell them you will keep them in your prayers). Simply telling them you love them goes a long way...
