It sounds like your ex didn't really think through his decision of breaking up with you. The ball is in your court now, so it's time for you to do some introspection. Do you want to get back together with him? What made him break up with you? Do you think he has gotten over those reasons? Do you have feelings for him anymore, or would you rather be friends? It's hard to make a big decision like that, but if he's gonna start sweet talking, it's best to be prepared, and to be clear about what you're comfortable with, what you want, and what you don't want. I think it's very unfair of him to do that to you, as he has not stated that he feels it was the wrong decision but just that it was hard on him.
I think you should keep your distance for a while and emotions have settled down because you could fall into the trap of supporting him through this break up and that's not your place, especially if he feels it's still the right decision.
You deserve to be with someone who is sure and who loves you for who you are. If that's not this guy then he did you favour and set you free to find someone who does.

for me, you ex is an asshole! if loves you why would he dump you in the first place ? duh !?? but the thing is, you still love the love, whether he's an asshole or a typical heart breaker or a man with issue. communicate, locate to your self if he really is worth a second chance . if he didn't say that he wants you back--straight to your face, and he'll just say that he misses you.. please, a real man who really is loving you will say that he loves you and want you back .you're confuse but it will get better =)0
