Cosplaying woes

2

So I’m not sure if this is the right place for this.. but oh well.
There’s a thing called cosplaying, where someone dresses up like there favorite character and goes to comic book conventions. I want to cosplay one of my favorite characters of all time, but there’s a problem. She’s thin, tall, and beautiful and I’m.. not. I’m short and fat and I have the wrong body type and face and it’s just not going to look good on me.. how do I pitch the idea of not cosplaying… well ever?

I know cosplaying! I love cosplaying. Okay I say you should totally cosplay as the chracter you love! Cosplaying always makes me feel confident because I can pretend i'm somebody i'm not and its the best feeling in the world to be your favorite character! If you aren't comfortable being her, that's okay too. There's a million characters out there but I really think you should still be your favorite character. It's just for fun anyways and if anybody says they don't like how you look, then that's their problem not yours.

If you really want to cosplay her, Just go for it. Cosplaying is about having fun and enjoying yourself! Honestly I was scared because of the same thing, but I just pushed aside my fear and cosplayed as my favorite character!~ Just remember this about cosplaying, in the end we are all just nerds, in costumes, doing something we love!~

I've been cosplaying for over five years now, and although you'll get some cruel people at conventions (as you will anywhere), they are few and far between. It is far more worth it to cosplay in a costume that you're comfortable in than to fret about what others have to say. I have met some of my closest friends through cosplay, and we're always far from perfect costumes. It doesn't matter in the end. Cosplaying is just a way to meet other people and to be creative and have fun! If you're comfortable, why should it matter what other people may or may not think, or if you're absolutely perfect for your character or not? I say you should go for it. I'm 98% certain that you won't regret it.

I am also a cosplayer! Cosplaying is all about having fun and showing what you love to other people. Your race, weight, face type, none of that matters. I am very short and have a body like a stick, and my favorite cosplay I do is of a very busty character. I was nervous the first time I wore it, I thought that people would look down on me because I didn't have the same body type as her. However, I actually received a lot of compliments! And I know that you think you'll look bad, but I promise you that once you get into your costume you'll look a lot better then you think you would. So go and rock that cosplay!

Goodness, I have that problem, as well. I'm pretty short, and kind of chubby. What I figured I'd do, is use something to hide my figure a little? Cosplay characters that are dorky, and don't have completely unachievable standards. Even pretty people sometimes have trouble cosplaying really well. Trust me, I have a friend who's a model who's had some awkward cosplays. I'd say just don't be too hard on yourself, honey! (I mean the honey thing in the nicest way possible, I'm not trying to be condescending at all; chances are- you're older than I am) Try not to cosplay people super super out of reach and go for something in your comfort zone. You'll be asked to get pictures of no matter what body size and it's about how hard you try in the cosplay, and the fun you have while doing it! It's no fun if you're self-conscience all the time. Just try to have fun! c:
