Of course! When you eat food (particularly foods in high sugar and fat)your brain automatically releases dopamine, which is a feel good chemical. In a lot of ways, this results in what we know as comfort eating in individuals who subconsciously eat to combat any feeings of sadness they may feel during the day. It is no coincidence that a lot of people eat more after an emotional trauma such as a death of a loved one or a recent break up. The stereotypical image of someone eating a whole tub of ben and jerries after a break up is a very poignant one. If you're aware of when you're comfort eating, then thats half the battle in making sure that you are not damaging your health in any significant way. What I would say about it though, is dont be afraid to comfort eat a little, we all cope with our own grief in different ways, but remember what Benjamin Franklin once said, 'Eat to live, do not live to eat'
