Often the temptation for clubbing can be there; but I assure you that most guys there only want one thing. A really great place to meet single guys is actually the supermarket.
Go out to a local supermarket and buy stuff as you normally would, but when you see a guy reaching for something you like that usually most people don't (for example, olives, certain cheeses, or a certain drink that isn't a leading brand - like Dr. Pepper) just talk to him.
Trust me, most guys I know would practically die if that happened to them; a woman just approaches them as they're shopping and makes the first move.
Staying in contact isn't tricky; just walk with the guy you choose for a while and discuss things - start off with the olives, but don't keep talking about olives constantly, or he'll think you're just an olive maniac.
Say stuff like this: "You like olives? Most guys I know hate olives.. Oh, by the way, I'm Becky"
"Yeah, I'm the only one of my friends who actually likes them. Nice to meet you Becky; I'm adam."
"Say, mind if I walk with you for a bit? I have a few more things to grab but you seem really interesting."
Believe me, that last thing may sound hard to say, but that is essentially the hook on the end of your line - if any woman, regardless of who she is, said that to me I'd melt into a puddle on the floor by the olives.
The supermarket way also makes for a great story when people ask how you got together, as well. I hope I helped :D
