That's a really good mindset to have, I agree with what you propose! If you really do love him, your parents will see that and one day come to accept him. I personally feel that 5-10 years is a really long time but it depends on how you want to take things, it's all upto you. You just have to give them time but in the mean time, perhaps it would be a good idea to sit down with your parents and have a serious conversation with them about you and your boyfriend/date. You just need to be honest with them and explain to them how you truly feel, they'll understand. They love you and want the best for you so if things work out will with you and your date and if they see that you're happy with him, they'll come to accept it in time. Hope it all works out!
