Does people preaching religion make anyone else feel uncomfortable?

0

I’m not religious but I do try to be respectful of other people’s religious beliefs. I don’t mind listening to their opinions if it comes up in discussion and can find it interesting to know what they believe in but only to a point. It makes me feel really uncomfortable and irritated when people try to preach to me because they are trying to save my soul and believe my way of living is wrong because I’m not religious.
Each to their own in my opinion and I don’t try to instil my beliefs on them so why should they feel like they can do it to me?
Does anyone else feel this way?

This saying comes to mind: "religion is like a penis, don't wave it around in public and don't try to shove it down anyone's throat"
I'm not bothered by it, i'm perfectly comfortable talking to people about religious beliefs and i find the topic itself quite interesting.
It did get a bit weird once when my sisters boyfriend told me i was going to go to hell, not in a threatening way though, just matter-of-factly. "Oh, you don't believe in god? That means you won't be let into heaven and you'll go to hell." The utter conviction when they speak about having a relationship with god/jesus and heaven and hell is a bit unnerving too...

I feel that way all the time when it comes to my uncle and also sometimes my mom. Its a part of life though because people have opinions based on their preferred religion.

I agree with you that I feel a little uncomfortable when people try to "save my soul." I love talking about religion, I just don't like people telling me I'm wrong over something that simply can't be proven. In their defense, they think they're saving you. I think it really is in good intention. They just don't realize how differently we view the world. I also get really awkward when people say "you only live once" because I believe in reincarnation. It's really quite funny.

Why should you respect somebody who is trying to tell you what to think, what to say, how to live? Because they obviously do not have any respect for you. And as horrible of a troll Neinor Niniel is, he presents a valid point. A lot of religious people I have met, do not practice what they preach, and are just horrible people to be around. (That's not to say all are, just the majority of the ones I've met)
