19 years old and never had a job?

Basically, I am now 19 years old and I’ve never had a job. Well I’ve had work experience but that was 4 years ago in 2010. I am in college and I’ve been taking art digital design courses for about 3 years now.

See, back when I started college, I was interested in that ONLY. I never thought about getting a job mainly because I just thought it would be meaningless doing a couple of duties just for a few pounds (I’m in the UK) and wanted to concentrate on what I want to do in my future. Now I’m a bit more mature and I sort of regret it (not too much though since I just felt that way back then) because now the course I’m doing is just an IT course and it’s boring. I’m trying my best to find a job. I’ve already handed in 2 CVs and did applications but still no replies. It’s VERY hard to find a job where I am.

But may I ask, will my status as a 19 year old male that’s never had a job be weird to many people? I just kinda don’t want to feel I’ve missed out on stuff..

Don;t worry. A lot of people, Bold Text OLDER PEOPLE don't have jobs.
Don't think that you're weird because you don't have one at the moment. Remember, the greatest richest people hardly had any job at all and when they did, they still had lots of hardships.
You're amazing, I'm sure. Don't worry. We learn from these moments and soon enough, that one special job will come to you!
Always here for you, You've got a friend in me

Hey Mark, no it's not weird. If you're in school and there were courses that you need to focus on then you can explain that-not in GREAT detail but simply there were classes etc that i needed to focus on at that time. If you were say 29 and not in a Doctorates program or the like then it would be of more interest to prospect employer. Hmm, if you can volunteer or freelance any service & experience you have do that on a case by case basis is my recommendation. You'll gain more experience & more references. Best of luck Nickie

Since you've applied to a lot of jobs it really isn't that weird or unusual, at least in my eyes. The fact that you're trying to get a job shows a lot, so don't feel weird about it, you still have time to build up a resume.

I am 22 and had one job that lasted 3 months lol. Don't take everything in life so serious otherwise you will crack, laugh off the problems and tell yourself well shit, 2.8 million people are unemployed, in the UK.Try some agency work, constant online applying, do some volunteer work or work experience to keep your CV a flow.I am still in the same wagon but it keeps rolling, don't give up everyone has a job out there for them just waiting for the right one and it will come to you one day.

I didn't get a real job until I was 20 years old. Honestly, it's not the worst thing as long as you are financially stable and have something to fall on in case you're not. Plus, you can find a small job and focus on your career or studies to your career!
