whether it be survivors of any form of abuse, overcoming a fear/obstacle/addiction/parent with addiction, illness, etc., it can be beneficial to have your story heard. In putting your story out there, you are releasing it a bit and may find others with similar circumstances that you can bond with. It is wonderful when something great like a true friendship can be created from a negative experience. While it is not always healthy to dwell in the past, acknowledging pain by speaking of it can often be quite liberating.
