Let’s get a list of ways to stop self harming going here. This website could use a good long list of real things that have helped real people, so we can help more people. What’s this website for anyway. Let’s start:

- Listening to music.
- Coming onto BlahTherapy.
- Ripping up paper.
- Burning paper (in safe, controlled conditions).
- Having a shower.

Add some more ways that helps/helped you to stop self harming.

- Snapping an elastic band
- Scribbling on a piece of paper
- Putting a plaster over the area you want to self harm
- Drawing on your skin in red pen

-Listening to classical music

-singing heavy metal
-writing down my misery and ripping it up or burning it.

- Talking to a someone about how you’re feeling.
- Looking at yourself in a mirror and picturing how you’d feel after you’ve harmed. (Works for me)
- Writing down bad thoughts and then cutting the paper.

-Listening to music (If I’m really close to the edge I have a certain artist I listen to)
-Youtube videos (something to get me laughing)
-Think about the 2 most important people in my life and being able to tell them that I didn’t do it

-Talking to someone I truly trust
-Putting ice cubes for a little while on the places I wanted to hurt myself
-Painting with hands/fingers
-Cleaning up computer files or my bedroom (trying to focusing on something else)

Instead of harming myself, I would draw (doodle really) a very detailed something wherever I was planning on doing the harm. As a perfectionist, I put great time and effort into the doodle, so by the time it was done I did not want to see any harm come to my work.
I also would have my best friend write “Love” all over my arms. I would never want to damage her writing on my skin. it kept me from harming more times than I can count.
