something that I find helps me out a lot is just playing around, not really playing songs or writing music. Picking a starting point and just working out where to go from there.

Aside from general auxiliary percussion, I focus on marimba, snare drum, and steel drum (my personal favorite).
Oh, and I’ve been in marching band for the past 5 years (high school and college), playing in the front ensemble (1yr), bass drum (2yr), and snare drum(2yr, including a year as drum captain). I just love my percussion instruments | |
