Since I was young, I have always pulled out my hairs. When I was younger, it was my eye lashes and eyebrows. Now, I constantly pull out the hairs on my scalp until there are bald spots. I really don’t want to do this, but it’s like i cannot control it. Half the time, I don’t even realize what I am doing until I see the pile of hair on the ground next to me. Is this trichotillomania, or am I just being over dramatic?

This is definitely trichtotillomino. I suffer from obsessive skin picking, which is commonly lumped together with trichtotillomino. It is actually called dermatillomino. Like you said, half the time I don’t notice how bad I’ve picked at a spot until my fingers are bloody. Even then, I tell myself ‘okay, just let me finish this one bump’ and it doesn’t stop. Even keeping my hands busy doesn’t work. So I sympathize with your frustration of this Body Focused Repetitive Behavior (BFRB) and the inability to stop or have control over it.
