I noticed that whenever I add a new friend, it takes away 5 cubepoints, and I am wondering what the reason for this is.

well i’m very hot around here, see. everyone wanted be my friend and it just got out of control. my power over the people growing beyond the administrator’s control. they had to find a way to slow me down, so they began taking points when i acquired a new acquaintance. but it didn’t work, people still kept flocking to me.

I guess it’s to help stop people adding like crazy to appear popular or get points, or slow down spam bots. If you got, say, 10 points for adding a friend, everyone would be friends with everyone in an attempt to get said points, but since it’s -5, it kind slows this down and makes people add only the people they actually want to be friends with. And with spambots, having heaps of friends is an easy and not overly suspicious way to gain points. Repetitive and irrelevant forum topics and question answers are more obvious. That’s just my theory though.
