So, my question to y’all is, what do you enjoy writing? It can be the genre you like writing (fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, erotica, etc.)or just something you like writing about (your day, your emotions, what you see, what you hear, etc.). And, why do you like writing about these things? Personally, I like writing research essays. Most college students hate the idea of having to compose a 2,000 word essay based around a central thesis. But for me, I enjoy it. When I fist began college, I dreaded writing. As I actually started researching and figuring out things from different authors points of views, it seemed to get more and more interesting. Recently, I have composed a 44 page research study that was institutionally recognized. It is a wonderful feeling. Aside from the research aspect of things, I actually enjoy writing poetry, usually my poetry is created from a twist on my past experiences, or how life is in my eyes. I just had a poem of mine published, which again is quite an achievement for me! So, what do you all enjoy writing about?

215 QA Reputation10 | Legionella said 10 years, 2 months ago: I enjoy writing fiction mostly about killers and thriller style stuff. I just found myself reading about serial killers one day and found it incredibly interesting. Now I would like to just throw out there that I am totally not some weirdo wanna be killer. I think they are interesting because there are extraordinary differences in the behavior and motivations or a serial killer and your average person. However there are the creepy parallels between them and average people. The things about them that make them the wolf in sheep’s clothing. I like to write stuff that portrays fictional serial killers how they really are because they aren’t all evil genius Hannibal Lectors. They can be almost anyone from the lowest IQ to the highest, the ugliest to the best looking, they can even be your school janitor or local politician. I find that to be equal parts fascinating and disturbing. I am currently working on writing a story that I would love to be worthy of publishing. It revolves around a young priest and a mysterious killer from the priest past. The mysterious man forces the priest to face the ghost of his past and inner demons. All the while the killer does what killers do and leave a string of bodies. Obviously this leans more towards my thriller style writing and not so much serial killer. I have a much larger project that I am constantly doing research for that is probably a long way off from completion. That story is going to be about a serial killer and his life, his family, and his inner thoughts. My goal is to make it so realistic that it makes people question the fictitious nature of it. I want people to actually wonder if my character is still at large out there in the world. Anyway I kind of rambled on a bit I think but I am very passionate about the stuff I write. I think my passion comes from my desire to write something that people will generally enjoy or at the least find interesting.

12671 QA Reputation16417 | Humanist Hope said 10 years, 2 months ago: In the beginning, I wrote to express my emotions and become more in tune with myself. As the years have worn on and my troubles have been confronted and settled and my emotions have changed, I find I have little need to write to stay in touch with myself. With that, I began looking to write about things of which I am knowledgeable; I am a big Star Wars fan, but those novels tend to get pitched to established authors. I have a lot of opinions, so I could write a blog, but I’m not very familiar with blog layouts and maintenance, so I have yet to try that. Finally, I am a big Highlander fan, and I have a killer story that would reboot the Highlander franchise and breathe new life into the story. I briefly considered writing self-help books, but nearly everything there is to say that is encouraging about the human experience has already been put to print, and I have a great difficulty writing about something that I have personally found to be sufficiently fleshed out as it is. In addition to my Highlander story, I have another story that I have no doubts will be successful. I very much want to become a published author and recognized writer, it is just a matter of putting pen to paper and getting those ideas down.

Tackling everyday issues people can face, a story that isn’t exactly based on a real life event, but it could have been, just unaware about the people affected. For example, I had an idea about a story involving suicide and depression, which I think especially now is a topic of revelence and realism. Not that I’m an expert or anything, but I really like to research things so it works out well I think. As well as fanfiction I suppose. I see it as a nice way to develop your skills, meanwhile already having a concept of the characters and all that, which could be both better or worse.

I have a lot of sport-based ideas, a couple of loose fantasy plots, a romantic novel, and a series of semi-comedy novels in my head. The main difficulty is on settling on one idea to tackle and stick at until it is finished.

On the personal side, I enjoy writing my musings and reflections about life, past experiences, and the like. I do keep a journal to help me remember moments and the emotions I felt during those scenarios. I used to write poetry in the vernacular language (I am Filipino) but lost the skill somewhere along the way. I am really interested with creative writing but somehow, perhaps because I have been too focused in journalism, I just can’t get the hang of it. See, when we write articles, we rarely use highfalutin words, even modifiers.

331 QA Reputation10 | Roaring Rabbit said 10 years, 2 months ago: I love poetry, that is my main interest in the field of creative writing. I love it because I see it as a form of philosophy. It reflects the type of philosophy that language cannot entirely and accurately reflect life. The less the words, the better it can be. The more ambiguity in statements and the more that you can get to learn about yourself and others. I love the ambiguity of certain poetry because it involves you and encourages you to use your own unique perspective and resolve the puzzle that is the poem and life itself. I started off writing very cheesy poetry, for my first girlfriend and I continued it ever since. Mostly as an outlet, now it is that but also it serves as my creative spot where I can imagine things and worlds and so many things. I’ve recently written more poems that can be considered part of children’s literature which is truly wonderful. It is very ambiguous and full of symbolism and metaphors, and so many other literary resources.
