I am Elliott Nik. I am recovering from Clinical Depression. I am having a bad night tonight so I am trying my best to distract myself from giving into my urges.
I try to use Depression to my advantage by trying to create something beautiful with something ugly. I set up mini projects for myself as a coping mechanism in replacement of self-harm.
This project is called ‘Stabilizers’. What I basically want to do is enclose people’s messages of hope and encouragement to me in a book. When I feel down or feel that I am slipping I can simply take it out and read wonderful, beautiful messages.
I want to show people that strangers’ words can impact your life.
I hope that by doing this I learn new things and ways to help myself so I can reach my ultimate goal of helping others in the future.
“There are moments when troubles enter our lives and we can do nothing to avoid them.
But they are there for a reason. Only when we have overcome them will we understand why they were there.”
― Paulo Coelho“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien“We can't be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea. Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don't have something better.”
― C. JoyBell C.“Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson“How would your life be different if…You walked away from gossip and verbal defamation? Let today be the day…You speak only the good you know of other people and encourage others to do the same.”
― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free
"I want to show people that strangers’ words can impact your life." Elliot you speak beautifully and i believe you have it in you to be a life changing person upon many. this is a lovely project and id love for you to pm me!
I think this is so beautiful, Elliott. What an intelligent and productive way to cope with something ugly and create something out of it that could really help not only you but others going through the same thing. You can really make a change, and I admire that so much.
My words of encouragement would be to think of even the tiniest things that make you happy about life. Like even ice cream. Or something bigger like "one day i want to save up for a trip to Italy and taste every gelato on the block." Sometimes people get stuck in the bottomless hole of routine life and think that waking up for the same day of work is useless. But instead of thinking of it as hopeless, think if it as working TOWARD something. Something that pays off. And it would be even more amazing, if possible, if you can join a career path that fills your day with things you love to do. Because everyone deserves to enjoy their lives and be happy.
