What the hell can I do?

So, my girlfriend has a 4 year old and is pregnant with another. Her “best friend” decided to punch her in the face and my girlfriend defended herself, but her friend didn’t let up. We both thought of calling the cops on this girl because I know this girl can go to jail for this, but due to the fact my girlfriend lives in and unfit place for her kid and unborn child we are afraid they’ll be taken away. I have a couple of questions. If i get her and her son away from the house and into an apartment then call the cops will the kids be safe? What am I to do in this situation if i can’t call the cops? I’ve been keeping myself from saying or doing anything wrong, but I want to do something about it. I want this girl to get what she deserves.

if they arent in a fit place for children then you should call the cops anyways! children need a very specific environment to be able to grow up healthy and good.

as long as they are in a fit place you shouldn't have any problem with them being taken away

I would suggest doing your best to clean up the place as best you can. If that is impossible, I would in turn suggest sending her to go and stay with a reliable family member. Surely the fact that she had been beaten up justifies staying with close friends or family as a support. The cops should get that, and unless this fight actively happened inside your girlfriends house, I cannot imagine them asking about her place. If they do, I might say that the place got messed up during the fight. Be creative, but always make sure you are telling at least a facet of the truth to the police. If you have to talk to the police, don't lie. They won't be happy. All in all though, I have no true experience here. I hope for the best my friend.
