Wanting to go anorexic…

0

I’m not the skinniest person and I weigh kind of a lot for my age. I’m 13 and I weigh 150 lbs. I’m also 5’6″ which I know adds some weight, but I still look in the mirror and see an ugly fat person looking back. I usually skip breakfast and lunch, but sometimes I just get so hungry I sneak some snacks, and I lose any weight. What can I do to help, I’m wayyyy too addicted to food. What can I do? Thankies!

Please, please, seek help. Find a therapist if at all possible. Speaking as someone in recovery from an eating disorder, I can tell you that eating disorders are hell. You may lose weight, but that's not all you lose. You lose your life. If you don't lose it literally (eating disorders DO kill), you lose it in every other way possible. You lose friends, you lose health, you lose dreams, you lose hope, you lose energy, you lose your will to get out of bed in the morning. It is not the route to take to lose weight. And, as your weight--knowing only your weight and height--is healthy for your height, I suspect the real issue at hand here is body dissatisfaction and emotional stuff that needs to be dealt with. You need to address your mental health, not your weight. From what you have said, you are already on a very slippery slope. Please try and get help as soon as possible to try and prevent this from spiraling out of control. Anorexia and other eating disorders do not make you happier with your body. Even at my lowest weight--what was considered "anorexic" on the BMI--I was unhappy with my body. This is not the way you want to go. Trust me.

Please do not become anorexic. Your body is your friend and you don't need to be skinny to be beautiful. I am not skinny but I'm comfortable in my own skin. I am 5'2" and I weigh 140. If you really want to lose weight, you won't be able to do it by skipping meals. Skipping meals is, one, bad for your body, and two, it throws your body into starvation mode and your body will actually store fat. If you really want to lose weight, eat three balanced meals a day with vegetables, drink lots and lots of water, and exercise. You don't have to sign up for a gym membership or anything, but maybe take dance classes if you like to dance. Play a sport. Go on long walks with a family member or a pet if you have one. Any exercise will help, but you have to get all of the nutrients your body needs.

1: If you go that way, you'll always feel like it. No matter what weight you reach, you will look in the mirror and feel the same.
2: Even if by miracle you get to a point where you can finally like it, you will still have to have an eating disorder, and, coming from the people who have it, it sucks, because you will still have issues with food, and a whole bunch of other problems.

An eating disorder takes 7 years to get rid of. You don't want to go down that road. Try sports, become a physically active person instead, build strength and confidence rather than weakness and insecurity.

I know the image that you want yourself to be is skinny, but getting there through becoming anorexic isn't & shouldn't be the only answer. Anorexia isn't only an eating disorder but it will drain your body of the nutrients of what your bones, muscles, heart, brain, etc. needs! Other alternatives to losing weight can be exercising & or eating healthier meals. Starving in fact actually progresses your body into obtaining more weight because it enhances your chances of a bigger appetite from what you've lost. Don't skip out on breakfast, snack on healthy snack like almonds or nuts mainly because they are very fulfilling & boost your metabolism, eat lunch, & finally dinner. Drink LOTS of water.

Food is not an addiction, it's a normal need for survival. As long as you don't overeat and exercise, you should be fine. I'm not very familiar with pounds (we use kilograms where I live), but you need to calculate your BMI (body mass index) which will objectively tell you if you are overweight or just think you are. If you lead a balanced lifestyle and are still objectively overweight, you need to see a doctor and find out if you have some type of health problem. If you want to go on a diet, consult with a nutritionist first. Don't skip meals though, that doesn't lead to anything good in the long term. Anorexia is a painful disorder and it makes you sick, not beautiful. If you are not anorexic, be grateful. Don't make yourself ill.
