Talking to parents

0

I have had an anxiety disorder for about 18 months. I am going to start therapy but I need to tell my mum about my problem and I don’t know how to tell her because I already tried to do it once but she just told I was silly and just a bit shy. Any suggestions?

If you're getting any professional help, would your therapist/psychiatrist/whoever you're seeing talk to your mum? Obviously you'd have to talk to her first but my mum found it really helpful being able to talk to my team about my MH problems.Otherwise it's a matter of just keeping on telling them until it's accepted. It can be really hard, but I hope your mum is a bit more accepting this time around.

I think if you really want to express your feelings to her about you, you should just sit down one day when she isn't busy and you both can just talk. It was very hard talking to my family and even some friends but i just keep telling them and telling them and eventually they excepted it and i started therapy. Please be careful with therapy though, it really made me question my judgment. It wasn't easy and you really have to stay with it, if that's what you want to do, and be careful with some of the therapists. Good Lock!!
