So confused about College/whether to go

0

So, for the longest time, I said that I didn’t want to go to college. I wanted to be a musician. After years and years of ridicule for that dream, I more or less “gave it up”, at least, in front of everyone, I did. But I never lost that dream. I tell most people that I want to be an author/writer, which is true to some extent, but not completely. I’ve looked at a lot of colleges in-state that offer English majors, or Creative Writing majors, and that’s great. I would do that. But, I don’t know if I even want to go.

I have two plans going right now, that I don’t know what will happen with either. The first, is to take my ACTs, and go to college for writing/English. The other, is to not go to college, leave the state, and go try to be a musician. I don’t think either option sounds very realistic at this point. But I’ve already graduated high school, I’m almost 18, and it’s time to decided.

So my question is, what should I do?

You should go to a college for music, like Julliard or something. If you change your mind you can always go for English also. I think you should become a musician and write a book on the side. The book could even be about your life or something

I think it's excellent that you never lost your dream. What sort of a musician do you want to be? If you decided to go to college, it would be possible for you to take lessons or be in the orchestra or band or choir at the college. What I'm getting from this is you want to do both of these things. What if you went to a community college for a little while (a semester, a year) to experiment with the college environment. Then you could transfer (or not, if you really love that college and it has your desired major) to a different college to pursue your major in writing or English and maybe minor in music or just participate in musical activities at the college or hey even double major if you're up for that!

I have a friend which dream is to be an actress but she knows is difficult, so she has started a degree in college (audiovisual media) and when she will be graduated she will try to live her dream, but knowing that if she fails or something she has a career. I think that is a good option, it's only four years of college and you will be still very young to live your dream.

I've looked into colleges based around music/performing, and they're mostly like theater/opera. I don't have an opera voice! haha. I just want to make music. Rock-type music. Like, if you guys have ever heard Smashing Pumpkins, that's the kind of stuff I'd make. I love the feeling of being so close to the audience, like, when they get what you're trying to say in a song. If I ever became a musician, I could never give up writing. I write my own songs, so it'd never be out of my life. I'm also worried that everyone would hate me for going into music...
