Need new hobbies

0

I’m a 14 year old girl. What I like to do is stay inside and doodle, and listen to music. In the afternoon I spend nearly all of my time on the laptop where I either draw on my Wacom Tablet, or message people, or go on Tumblr or something. But I don’t feel satisfied. I need something new.

I see these other kids my age that are doing things with their lives – regardless of whether they want to do them or not. For example two people I know do Sea Cadets, but it’s ‘not my thing’. Someone else I know does Ballet (which I did for 10 years and decided that it’s no longer my thing either).

Basically, I need to do something, I need to fill up my week because I’m feeling inadequate and not good enough. I’m not doing much other than sit at home all day, and it’s making me feel more and more depressed.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do?

I think that many people are stuck in that same cycle that you are in.
I'm not sure what you like. But there are a range of activities such as sports (soccer, football, tennis), clubs (orchestras, band, chess). You can also look around your school and see what kind of clubs interest you and what they offer.

Even ask your friends! I'm sure that they can give you wonderful ideas. :)

Well I definitely understand that sentiment. I have been there and I'm still kinda in that place where i am using various hobbies to entertain myself throughout the day. Personally I suggest perfecting art a bit more because that actually give a bit of an advantage when learning other creative hobbies. A lot of ideas and concepts in traditional art are easily transferable to other creative hobbies such as contrast and spacial mapping and planning. I don't have other specific ideas for what you might want to do (most of the hobbies I picked up follow the lines of survival skills, archery, and knife throwing) but youtube is incredible and wikihow, instrucatables and plenty of other sites exist to help learn such skills. But in all honesty a lot of the time it feels like people around us are more productive then they are, on the average day they are probably not doing anything all that incredible, facebook and other social media just makes it sound better then it is. But if you want to do something art based, why not a 30 day challenge? those are fun and actually still on my list. If you ever want to talk just let me know,PM me, I'll see if I cant come up with some better ideas soon. But you seem to be smart and contemplative, use that. When i feel that way surrounding myself with the things I have created makes me feel better.

Well I do rugby, yoga, crossfit, polo(crosse) running and surfing and I'm learning Irish dance! I've also done things like ballet, swim team, rowing, tennis, taekwondo, photography/camera club? You could also try learning an instrument. I've met many people through playing music. You could also try joining the Red Cross or something? There's surely a youth group of some sort in your area? Art class? Take a computer or coding course? CPR? Volunteer at a local animal shelter or visit at retirement homes? All of these not only get you out there meeting people, but they all look good on a cv too!

I saw your interest with the tumblr and the tablet. I'm going to suggest photography. Whether you start out photographing dirt, or people (you choose!) it's definitely worth a shot! That's how I got into photography, and why I have the business I own today at 19 years old. Give it a go! Good luck! :)

Art everyone is saying art. But there is more than art. art can be a group thing if you get a group a friends and go out and take pictures or creat something. this is all easy said and done but art is more than what people say it is everything and everywhere. You say your at home allot why not try to get out and hang out with your friends or go somewhere were you haven't been. your 14 you got a lot ahead of you so you got a lot of time to try things.1st i will suggest this what are you good at... what is it think and take your time to understand what you are good at and not then look at the good and see what in life you can do with that. If you can draw then focus on that and get creative and extravagent. something that tells a story and something that every little thing means something to you. the stuff that you are bad at or cannot do is were you relie on people to fill that in and help in thoes areas. Find what you knack is your talent your skill and let it thrive.do not dwell on how other people live there lives they are doing something they like or want to do and it is how they are do not think they are any better and do not think you are worthless and do nothing. you will find your calling in due time but you also must put effort into finding what makes you happy.I can relate to this allot but when it comes to typing it is rather diffcult for me to type it. I have been there done that but accepted as to what i did at the time made me and others happy. nothing is worthless everything has its purpose and what you do is not a waste you just want to do more so find it in your self as to what to do. no one knows better than you and no one can tell you what you like rather than you.
