My dog needs help

1

My dog Chewy has been seriously ill for the last 4 days and has been getting worse every day. He is constantly shaking from pain, wont eat or drink, is panting, keeps his head low and back arched when walking, and will wake up into a whine from pain. He’s a Labrador and is only 3 years old, he is my closest friend and I couldn’t imagine losing him. When he was a puppy i saved his life and he remembers, he has since been so close to me that if i walk out of my room he follows, if i leave the house he waits by the door, if i sit down on the ground he sits in my lap which is what he is doing right now constantly shaking from pain.. like he’s expecting me to help him but i just don’t know what to do. I don’t have a single dollar. I can’t afford a vet, i cant even go outside and beg for change or mow lawns since I’m on house arrest.. i’d go back to prison before i could even get enough if i could even get any. I have begged my family for money and everyone’s just as poor as me. I’ve been researching anything i can possibly find on Google and anything i find just says take him to the vet. If anyone knows anything at all i can do please help me. I just want what I’m assuming is 250 for vet costs and i look around and find everyone spending so much money on selfish things when i cant even get the small amount to save my best friends life. I’m about to say fuck it and just leave anyways and drive to a vet and pretend that i have money and get into to a doctor then when it comes time to pay i’ll just make something up and deal with all the consequences later. Any ideas or suggestions help a lot, thanks for caring and reading.

Take him to a vet and explain that he's really sick and that the situation in you can't afford to pay them right away. They might be willing to work out a payment plan for you to help the dog in need.

Is he throwing up a lot? Does he drink water at all? If He is he might have parvovirus, but there are things you can do to help him at home. If you have any money at all like a few dollars get him some of that pink children's ibuprofen liquid. You will have to hold him down n hold his mouth closed so he swallows it. Do it every 6 hours. It will coat his stomach n make it feel better. Also use children's pedialyte. See if he starts to slowly drink water. He will still throw up but it will be getting better. Once he shows a sign of drinking, feed him cooked rice. It will help him to eat. I went through the same with my dog and had no money for the vet. This did the trick for her.Hope this helps

Call the humane society.

Just take him to a vet, and hope they have some humanity in them. Maybe they'll help you.

To be entirely honest, if your dog's in that rough shape, he NEEDS a vet no two ways about it - there will be little to nothing you can do for him at home, it sounds like he has serious internal issues. Phone the vets in your area, see if any of them make house calls - some will, and some vets are 'mobile' and keep an office in a van and ONLY do house calls. Many will be flexible with payment options and some may even work for free or at a reduced rate. Contact local charities or humane societies as well, they may be willing to work on him for you or direct you to someone who will.

You need to at least call a vet or a humane society to get help. If your dog isn't drinking at all try chicken broth. You need to force water (a children's medicinal syringe works) a few tsp at a time every hour. Try getting the dog to eat cooked sweet potato, apple sauce, over cooked rice or applesauce. Sometimes dogs just eat things they shouldn't and it can cause serious issues, if you can get it to pass it helps. Make sure the dogs gums are not pale, it indicates internal bleeding. It's been days and your dog is suffering, you have to contact a professional, you can't diagnose an animal through google.

I am a veterinary nurse, you need to get your dog some help asap!!! It would be cruel to leave him in pain. Call a vet and explain the situation your in. A charity like the SPCA maybe able to help you, you maybe able to surrender him over while they treat him and then adopt him back? But he needs help right now, even if you have to give him up, it's the hardest thing to do as he is probably like family to you.

Is his belly huge and bloated? You can check his temp rectally with a human thermometer. It should be 101.4 normally for a dog. Also look at his gums and see if they are pale or nice and pink. If you flip his lip up and pinch it lightly the spot you pinched should turn pale and then fill back in to pink immediately. This is capillary return. If it happens slowly at all he is loosing blood somehow.I ask about the bloated tummy because deep chested breeds like Labs can have their stomach flip completely over and the nothing can pass threw. It will then fill up with gas. It can be fatal in hours but may take longer. If he has a temp he may just have an infection of some kind. Dogs take many of the same antibiotics as humans. Does he have watery stools or vomiting? Also look in his ears and smell them. Do they look and smell ok? Check his teeth and make sure none are badly infected or broken off. Dogs can have 81 mgs of aspirin per 15lbs every 12 hours but aspirin is a blood thinner so if you don't have any clue what is wrong I don't know if I would give him any. If you answer me back I can try and help. I am not a vet but have been a breeder for years and worked closely with my vet. Even a bad case of worms can cause bad stomach upset.
