My boyfriend, who is a widower of 2 years and I are finally after 10 months to the point of having sex. He cried on our first date and has had his highs & lows throughout. How do I handle it if he cries when we have sex?
Let him cry and pat him in the back or whatever you do if he cries when you are not having sex, when he's done you'll decide together what to do next. If it happens every time and you don't think he's ready for this relationship, you'll handle it later (by asking him to see someone, by deciding to take a pause, etc.).
It'll just take time for him to adjust to his new life without his partner. You need to be understanding and accepting of how hard and frustrating this must be for him. It'll take time but he'll get there - you just need to be supportive.
I've been very patient, considerate and haven't pushed at all and he has actually thanked me for that.
I mean it literally, what if he cries while we're in bed? Do I console him? Nothing is going to make him feel better...
Are you the first person he dated after his wife died? If so he may have a very unreal expectation of you. Good luck and I hope it works for you, but if he cries at this point I would be too concerned that he hasn't let his dead wife go yet.
