A big thing in getting over my addiction was realizing 1) what caused me to do it, and 2) setting tiny little goals for myself. For example- one thing I did was start a paper chain- every day I went clean of self harm I added another link onto the paper chain, and my goal was to get the paper chain to wrap all around my room. Or, you could try the butterfly project- draw a butterfly on the place you want to cut, and if you cut there you kill the butterfly. If it washes off, it survives. (Alternative: Have someone write their name on your arm/leg/wherever you self harm, and know that if you hurt yourself there, you're hurting them.)

It is better if you talk to a therapist. The only advice I'm going to give you is to ask your parent/guardian to help you stop. Value your life more by coming out of depression and seeing the opportunities out there that are available for you. I wish you luck!

I personally find a good way to stop, Is by tapering off slowly. Just like with any addiction, stopping cold turkey, all but sets you up for relapse. you could start by trying to harm somewhere that isn't quite as pleaseing, like moving from your arms to legs, or stomach. then move onto doing something that doesn't draw blood, like a rubber band, or even your fists. Ice cubes are good for wanting to burn. Hold an ice cube instead. then you can move onto drawing on yourself, or something you find helps that causes no pain. but a reward system is a good idea too. While your doing all of this, you should find other coping skills, that help you, that aren't self harm related. here's a little list of coping skills to get you started.- http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/sitepages/tips/tip-99-coping-skills.aspx -never be discurated by relapse, it happens to the best of us, and dosent mean you've failed. I wish you the best in your mission.
