It's better if you don't cut yourself, but if you do, make sure to clean your cuts. Also make sure what you use to cut yourself is clean. I can understand you're worried for infections, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. I've been cutting myself for 9 years and I never bothered to clean my cuts or my blades. I don't think I ever got an infection, however it is better to keep it clean. Next time, well hopefully not a next time, but if there is, make sure to clean it. If you're concerned that it would get infected, then it's better to be safe than sorry and to say it.
