You have stood by her and have been a great friend. If you think that you would make a good partner for her than you should by all means go ahead and talk to her about it. Open up the communication and continue forward. Life is not so heartless that a conversation can't make it better.

Maybe you need a time to make it work because is not easy to make someone to fall in love with us when they have bad experience from that. For me, you need to be patience and give her time to realize how much you like her, to make sure that she love you because what she feel not because the "situation" right now. Love need a lot of patience and you just need a right time to tell her what you feel before you can decide is a good or not for you relationships.
