I have problems with my parents

0

My parents seem to be possessive about me. I’m in senior year of engineering in a college here and I’m 21. Next year I want to pursue my graduate studies abroad. I like to think that abroad I can have abundant opportunities that can help me realise my dreams and take me to the next level. But if I choose to stay in my own country(in Asia) I would not be able to make any mark. I love to travel , explore , discover , achieve my dreams and do a lot of things. Plus I want to stay as a bachelor. All of my life.

Now I sometimes think if I m gone abroad for years , who would take care of my parents ? They will be helpless and would miss the old days. The idea that I will be chilling abroad in countries while leaving my parents alone at home depresses me pretty much. If you were at my place , what would you have done ?

There comes a time where you must live your life for yourself. Yes, others may not agree with your decisions, but you need to make some of those for yourself. If you love to travel, you should travel! You should not be held down. You can always come back and check on your parents after, but you should live your own life too!

Like lexmlas said, you need to live for yourself. Staying at home to take care of your parents while as admirable as it is will only lead to you be miserable in the end. You should follow your dreams and do what you feel you must do.

My father has always told me two things. 1. You have to keep in mind that there are multiple perspectives. It might feel like it will be the end of your world, but it might be a good thing. 2. He is convinced that people should always move far away from their families. It gives them a chance to look at the world as an independent.I think you should take it. It is a wonderful opportunity, and it will further your learning. I also think you should talk to your parents. They will be the most understanding, and will be able to help you the most.

Unfortunately that is part of growing up. Don't miss out of the opportunities life has to offer you you only live once. You can always make sure to send them money for things they might need. I don't think its right to let your dreams go like that. Some people may not agree but you can't make everyone happy and that also includes your parents. There is so much to learn and see to stay stuck somewhere that with time you won't be happy anymore. You don't want to regret doing something you love.
