How to Start Listening

I’ve always enjoyed when my friends come to me to vent about their problems, so when I heard about this website I thought it might be a cool thing to try out. I want to be a listener, but I’m not really sure what to do? Do I assume they’re looking for advice? Or do they probably just want to know someone is listening to them?

I listen here all the time, honestly I normally chat with the person and ask along the way if anything is on their mind, some people are just lonely and need someone to talk to no need to assume to world is ending when they join your chat, also some people are still scared/shy even if it's a anon thing let them open up.

I always just say 'Hello.' wait for them to reply, ask 'How are you?' then when they tell me I just ask 'What's on your mind?'

It will always depend on the person. You just have to decide what you think they want.
