Making friends outside of school can be tough. You could befriend coworkers or meet people at local events like concerts, block parties, etc. Maybe also other things like cooking classes, art workshops, even going to a coffee shop is an opportunity if you live in a friendly community. Getting over someone, in my personal opinion is all about time and space. But I'm sure other people will have more advice on that for you (:

Join clubs or participate in activities you're interested in! If you like any sports see if your community has a team or club for those sports. That way you'll be around people with similar interests and can get to know them. Meetup is also this really cool website where you can find local groups, some of which are just for social purposes. It's free to join and only costs money to start your own group, but there should be groups already formed near where you live. Getting out there and making friends should also help you get over someone too

When I try to get over someone, I find that a couple things work for me. First of all, I make myself stop 'stalking them' on social networking sites. For the first couple days I'll allow myself to check their Facebook page once or twice, tops, and then not at all after that. I'll also just spend as much time with my friends as possible, as well as trying to keep really busy with my hobbies, school, etc.
