How do I find a good psychologist?

0

Hey,

I’ve been feeling depressed for 8 years now with periods in which I’m really suicidal.
I’ve been having panic attacks too and I did seek help at a psychologist but I just couldn’t talk to her she was really weird and I had the feeling she didn’t understand me. Now I’m wondering how I can find a better one. I’m from The Netherlands by the way.

When I first looked for a psychologist I had the same problem. The advice I got was to research people in your area. Find ones with experience in your particular problem(s). Once you've actually picked one that you are going to see give them at least 3 sessions before you decide if you like them or not. The first one I started seeing I couldnt click with them and feel ok there. I had to find a new one. But the one I see now is extremely helpful. It took me about 3 or 4 sessions to feel comfortable there.

hey there, Finding a good psychologist can be difficult at times because you need someone who you can connect with and does not judge you . That on its own can be challenging . I suggest you could use this site - there are many councillors or soon to be psychologists such as myself and many others. Other than that you could check out youth psychologists in your area.

You can also use this site to find people you can talk to in general. There are a lot of people here dealing with the same type of issues. Make a friend or two and don't give up on your first few encounters, even non-psychologist people have to connect! But having people knowing what you're going through can help a lot. They are able to offer support.

There are usually sites that let you view reviews of therapists in your area. Sometimes there are articles in the paper and online about them, if they're really good.
