Gray hair at 14..Is this normal?

0

So I’m 14 years old, female, and already have streaks of silver hair. It’s not in patches, but it’s noticeable. In class one time I let my friend pick out all the ones she could find. She found a grand total of 40(keep in mind she picked them out in only 5 minutes) I know that doesn’t seem like a lot considering the trillions of billions of individual hairs on our heads, but it is a lot when you’re 14. I’m pretty sure it isn’t hereditary. Do I have a vitamin deficiency? Or is it stress levels? Does anyone else have this problem? Will it only get worse?

Grey hair in this age has nothing to do with stress. It is mostly about your family. If your parents had this sort of thing when they were your age, than its probably about genes. Go ahead and ask them...

I think it's stress. You might want to talk with your mom about dying your hair, if that's what you wanna do. There are many products that help relieve stress, and one I would recommend is a Tangle (www.tanglecreations.com). I bought one online for less than $10 and when I feel stressed I pick it up and it melts away. Try to find a non-stressful hobby to get into. That could help too.

im not sure what the cause is but i have a friend and a my cousin (whos is 24-25 and her mother has pitch black hair at the age of 60+) it could be a diffecincy yes but like i said not too sure (my cousing had severe anemia) when she got better the white hair wasnt there anymore (or maybe she still dyes it)its not common but it is normal abdfor each grey hair you pick out 2-3 more come out from its place...DO NOT PICK IT OR COME NEAR IT ! youre only making it tons worse

I think it could be stress, and if it is then some relaxation and good food will help. It could also just be a pigment thing. But don't worry I love grey hairs on younger people, it's edgy!

Premature graying has normally something to do with the melanin production. (Melanin is a pigment that determines skin and hair colour etc. ). According to some studies, stress can indeed be responsible for bringning the melanin production to a halt. Stress hormones can cause inflammations on the level of the follicles which produce new hair. However, there are other scientists who claim the complete opposite saying that gray hair is influenced by genetics. I'll put the links of the articles below and you can see for yourself :)Vitamin B-12 deficiency or problems with the pituitary or thyroid glands can cause premature graying. In this case it may be reversible.I'm no expert but if you're really concerned about this whole issue you can always see a doctor. S/he will surely find the reasons and will provide you with an adequate solution. Best of luck ! :)Articles: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/10112656/Stress-is-to-blame-for-grey-hairs.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/18/gray-hair-stress-beauty-myths_n_1885646.html http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-stress-causes-gray-hair/Here are some interesting links I found: http://www.webmd.com/beauty/hair-nails/abcs-premature-graying http://scienceline.org/2007/10/ask-bewley-grayhair/

Hi! I had started having grey hair when I was about 13 or 14 as well. I think it's normal that people have this hair colour (some people call it the salt and pepper hair colour) you should probably ask you parents if they had someone in the family who had it as well; if not, probably the stress thingy or something's the reason. I think it's normal though! Hope it helps!

Gray hair can be a product of extreme fear or stress.
