Make sure that you feel comfortable with him/her. They're pretty calm, observant people. Make sure to have a list in you head or on paper of the things you'd like to discuss.

Hi. Can you share your experience with us? I'm curious how psychologists work. How did you feel during the session? (that is only if you are comfortable sharing)

As venttoybvmoveon said, it is incredibly important to have a click with your psychologist. You are going to discuss your deepest issues with this person, so trust is essential. When I had to go to my psychologist for the first time, I hadn't a clue what to say. But I did know what I wanted - I wanted to function again. Knowing why you're going there, your goal, is important.Next to that, just go there with an open mind and with an understanding that this person is there to help you.Good luck

Sure thing Corhene. As this was my first session, it was mostly him getting to know me and we scheduled another session for Next week. I felt comfortable talking about most of my issues, but there were still things i don't yet feel comfortable talking to him about, aswell as some things i had to use some time to get out and try to explain. When the session was over i didnt really feel any different, so i first thought it was a Waste of time, but as i said this was just me talking alot and him asking me questions like what were the positives and then the negatives of what i talked about. He told me next session we will og into my anxiety and depressions and talk about how to possibly get better.

Thanks for sharing. Building rapport is the first step indeed. He was breaking your wall. I think you did great.
