Okay, I have had chronic insomnia since I was a child. I remember praying when I was little that I could get some sleep. I would often have night-terrors when I finally did get some sleep. Then, my daughter has the same chronic insomnia. Unfortunately, it may be that you will have to have some medication to get sleep. HOWEVER!--There are ways to make it so that you can take a much smaller dosage of meds, and if you have the right body chemistry combined with mind control (You in control of your own mind)...maybe even not have to take meds anymore. Obviously, Melatonin (that you can buy at your grocery store)...but usually it takes a far larger dose than recommended. Also, if you have any issues in your brain you haven't tackled and subdued...the larger doses of Melatonin can make your dreams nightmares, just so you are aware...Good news is...you can STOP that by tackling those issues. Some people have a reaction to sleep-walk or sleep-eat etc when taking ambien...so you can actually lessen this possibility by taking a smaller amount of ambian with a small amount of seroquil added (discuss with your doctor of course). Also, certain anti-anxiety and anti-deprresant meds at a low dosage can do the same. NOW on to mind control...YOU IN CONTROL. Depending on how bad your insomnia is, you can at least lower the amount of meds even if it is chronic. There are some realities to face. I highly suggest the following, all Free, [and concentrate on the inner eye-lids with your eyes relaxed while also concentrating on your breathing.] 1/ Santisi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP1KkpQg1Rk ---2/ "SIXTY SECONDS TO PERFECTION" ------BECOME A MASTER! The National Center for Disease published its findings that fluoride causes fluorosis of the teeth and over time fluorosis of the skeletal bones...chipping, easy breakage... but that it also causes calcium deposits on the pineal gland, and your pineal gland regulates melatonin for sleep and both natural DMT and Serotonin needed to feel happy. So if you can not get really clean water or organic food (which most of us in the USA can not)...then here are things you can buy at a store such as wal-mart that will help you... Melatonin, Vitamin-C at least 3-thousand mgs per dosage, also GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) which naturally relieves stress and anxiety, of which the only inexpensive bulk amount I've personally found to get from vitacost.com Seriously, please let me know if you find someplace cheaper...I'd like to know. So, depending on how chronic it is...you can still use these strategies to at least lower your medication dosage... and perhaps even stop having to take it all together. I send you love & luck & sweet dreams. Blessings To You, ~Suzanna. (This can really work.)

Close your eyes and think about you being somewhere else, anywhere else. It could be the beach, the rainforest, anything. Imagine you're walking through it and you can feel the crunch of sand/leaves under your feet. You hear the birds or the rush of the ocean. You can smell raindrops or seasalt. When you use three or more senses it helps you get to sleep better(:

You could find recordings of ocean waves to help you sleep. I know it helps me.

Close your eyes and count imagined sheeps haha or just count normal numbers, it will be so boring that you fall asleep ;)

I have a hard time sleeping as well. If you don't want to use your medication (totally understand, been there done that) I suggest finding things to watch that don't require a lot of attention. Or as someone said ASMR videos are very helpful. I also suggest working out your mind and body. It might sound lame but it works. I will do homework and go to the gym to exhaust myself. Some people can work out before bed but I don't know if you are one of those people. The more active you are the more you will be able to sleep at night is what I found. Hope I gave you something to think about!

Hey ever heard of ASMR? If you type it into youtube there are loads of videos to listen too. They are calming and relaxing and help me get to sleep all the time. Its a nice break from life listening too them :) you should try and check it out! It might give you some tingles too

Yes go to YouTube and find Professor Messer's videos on Networks. I give you no more than 20 minutes before you're naked at school.

What I suggested works and I was the first to reply. Why in the world would someone down vote the most helpful answer? Was it someone else who answered who didn't like the fact I had helped instead of them or did they just not understand the answer and assumed something bad about it? Whoever it was needs to grow up. Maybe I shouldn't help people if my work is going to be punished instead of rewarded.
