Can I file a report against my dad for verbal, emotional and mental abuse?

So here’s the story:
My father saw a crumpled bottled water with water in it. He asked us who did it and my 10-year old brother admitted that he did it. Then he swore at my brother and he said “fck you you f*cker” and he threw the bottle at him. He also told my brother that he should drink tap water in order for my brother to get sick and die. He even pointed a finger at us and hit the door. This is not unusual because he does it everyday. It’s getting worse so what I did was I secretly recorded it but I don’t think if this was valid since it was only audio and it’s not in English. He also used to hit us so I’m so afraid that it would happen again.

What language was it? People and authorities can usually get things like this translated easily. I say go for it. Although reporting this is the right thing to do, it will begin a long, long road of investigations, CPS, police, social workers, etc. I've been in a situation like this with my ex step father.

You have to think you have both yourself and your brother's safety to consider in this and you might not always be there if the situation with him gets worse than it has with you there. It might help to know what country you are in as to what options you have on offer, but if you have a solid social-services system then you should consider contacting them. It might also be helpful to know if he is your only parent, if not you should perhaps talk to your mum first about his aggression if you feel like you can?

Yes, you can in any nothern-european country or Canada-Usa and yes, you should. I had to deal with that kind of father for years and it was my best move ever. Talk to your mom about it also, but if she stands by your father's side, than make a move. it is valuable as they have translators in those centers, and if they used to hit you guys or still does, you can use that also. Prepare your brother as he might have to awnser questions and he'll be scared of being hit, probably... Be strong!
