A question about my novel

0

I’m currently working on a novel that explores some controversial themes; the main character is a young girl who is raped by one of her father’s co-workers. I have two ideas about how this works out – can someone give me their opinion?

Idea 1 is that her father and his friends beat the shit out of him
Idea 2 is a bit more shocking; her father and his friends give him a taste of his own medicine and rape him themselves

UMMMMM.......... As a victim of rape......idea 2 is repulsive. Makes them no better than the rapist. This is hard to read. I understand writing a book about a cultural travesty but some people on here have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and might not be ready to read that you want to write a book about something that will always haunt their lives. I don't know if this is the best place for your research. With much respect and peace. Thank you.

I actually think this is a good place for your research. this is a place to learn and understand from people that are real and have experienced these things in real life or have very real opinions on them. I dont think Mog Anarchy meant any harm in asking something like this on a site that isnt supposed to be judgmental, in a community of people who are supposed to seek to understand. Have you ever seen The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? She is raped and as revenge rapes her rapist. A lot of times people want their offenders to feel the very same pain they did (Like in the movie Death Sentence). I think that a shocking twist is sometimes a very good thing. Also another good thing is the summary on the back of books so readers with PTSD can see that the book is about something that may trigger something. (maybe next time in your Q&A just put a trigger warning in your description of your question, before anything else!) hope i helped!

There are many other ways for this to go! Don't confine yourself to these two ideas. As both a reader and a writer I can give you my opinion; The first idea is a "good guy" move while the second idea implies some shadier characters. If you were only going to decide between those two, it would depend on the kind of guys the father and his friends are.As I said, however, there are many other ways for you to take that story. Rape does not only result in violence...there are a lot of opportunities for all of your characters within such a traumatic event, do you know what I mean?Just my two cents! Hope this helps.
