You are definitely not alone in this. I’m an introvert, so this is one of my life’s biggest struggles.

Leave an open ear for him/her and ask them what’s up at least once. If he/she ever decides to tell you what’s bothering him/her, he/she will feel like he/she can trust you more and may open up more often. If he/she never opens up, you can’t be blamed for it and shouldn’t be upset by it. That’s what I think.
