That isn’t my reality. To love freely takes time, energy, and patience. It’s not always difficult, but it’s not always easy either..
I wrote this after a day of giving myself to another person. And even though I wasn’t feeling well to begin with, and it was tough, I did it anyway because I love them, and I’d do it again.
Then I came home, plopped on the bed, and opened Facebook to see an usually high amount of my friends, family, and acquaintances posting about their troubles, messages from people wanting favors, and… I just felt a little overwhelmed. So I came here, and I wrote my little entry, and I took a deep breath, and reminded myself that it isn’t my responsibility to ’save the world’. I can only do so much. Loving people is hard work, and I need to keep that in mind in order to protect myself from taking on too much. I’ve really hurt myself in the past by doing that, so I have to be mindful.
And as for gratitude, I was talking about taking a moment to give thanks, not receive it. Being grateful for my life, being grateful to have friends and people that I love who love me. Three years ago I wasn’t sure if life was worth living. And even though there are still some struggles, I’m happier than I’ve ever been. And I am grateful.
I can’t speak for you. But in my experience, it’s not always easy to be there for people in times of need. It takes patience and sacrifice. So yeah, I stand by what I said, loving people is hard work. But I like to think it’s worth it.
And in the spirit of standing up for myself, I’d like to say that I don’t really like your tone. You judged me without even understanding what I meant, and I don’t appreciate that.
I’d also like to invite you to maybe gain a new perspective on things. If you truly believe that it doesn’t take effort to love other people, maybe use some of that common decency to respect my point of view, and askwhy I think what I do, instead of trying to shame me or whatever your intention was with that heinous comment.
Now, I respect peoples’ right to say whatever they want, and I can’t make you do anything. But I’d appreciate if you’d at least delete those extra comments. I’m not OCD, but it is bugging me a little bit.
Finally, if I still have your attention, I’d really like to know. What sort of life have you lived where loving people has always been easy? PM me if you want ~
