When we are struggling with our self-image, it is important to remember that we also have to be on our side. We have to be kind and patient with ourselves, rather than negative and judgmental.

Relapse is a part of recovery. You are doing very well, and it is okay to be honest with people about your troubles. The more honest we are with ourselves, the more honest we become with others, and the wall behind which we hide becomes smaller.

You needn’t be ashamed of your situation. It is your way of trying to fight through the parts of your life that are troubling you. Treat your injuries the way you would treat anyone else’s; with a tender touch, reassurance, and compassion. You need your love just as much as anyone else.
