From someone who no longer has their parents… You should say, ”Mom & Dad…. I need to have a serious talk with you; can we talk??!!” Then when they sit down for 5mins…. and you ask about their day (and are sure you have their attention) say: ”Okay, this is really hard for me to say… but I’m gonna say it… (with energy) I LOVE YOU GUYS!!”
Then get up and hurriedly leave the room… and do not come back for an hour or so. (if you can muster tears… even better). When you come back, go say: ”I love you!!” again (but with a hug). And keep going again. This is your new routine until they ask why you’re doing it. Then you can tell them YOUR TRUTH.
